We aim to promote a positive attitude towards skin protection and take effective measures to ensure each child in our care is safe from sun damage. During the daylight savings months we avoid being in the direct sun between 11am and 4pm and 10am to 3pm EST. In achieving this activities are set up under the large shade tress in the early part of the day taking into account the movement of sun. The activities and children are brought inside during the time aforementioned. The service provides children with sun block cream SPF 30+. Babies under the age of 12 months will not have sunscreen applied as their outside play area is totally protected from the sun. With the exception of children under 19months, staff ask parnets to apply sun screen to their children on arrival at the centre. All sunscreen carries the Cancer Council of Australia approval. We parents to keep in mind the changes of seasons and to provide your children with appropriate clothing. Warm jackets and beanies for outdoor winter play and footwear that provides safety. In the summer months children's shoulders and neck are to be covered. It is not acceptable to drop your child off with a tank or singlet top. Sandals should provide protection to toes. MOCCA provides Sun Safe hats for children and staff. Our hats comply with the recommendations of the Cancer Council Australia. Visit Cancer Council SunSmart for further information. |
